The South-West Regional Health
Authority (SWRHA) is one of five (5) existing
Regional Health Authorities established by the
Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago under Act
No. 5 of 1994 as part of Government’s
efforts through the Health Sector Reform Programme
to decentralize the management and provision
of health care in Trinidad and Tobago.
The SWRHA is responsible for the administration
and management of the San Fernando General Hospital,
Area Hospital Point Fortin, the Princes Town
District Health Facility, Couva District Health
Facility and 33 Health Centres scattered throughout
the region.

Ms. Geraldine Lewis, Co-ordinator of the Community Liaison Unit, receiving the Commitment to Patient Care award from Ms. Erroline Warner-Mason, Ag. General Manager, Nursing.
The Community Liaison Unit (CLU) was formed with the aim of promoting integration and strengthening linkages among hospital and community health services, thus creating a seamless continuum of care through effective discharge planning.
The Community Liaison Unit consists of three major components:
- A Liaising Centre which deals with data collection and provides a direct link between hospital and community services.
- A Patient Education and Counselling Centre for clients and relatives.
- A Home Nursing Service.
Ms. Geraldine Lewis is the Co-ordinator of the Community Liaison Unit.

A. The procurement of the MRI machine has been completed. However, a special building to house this service has to be constructed. Design works are in progress and a contract is to be awarded. One must be mindful of the present state of the construction industry. The estimated time for completion of this project is December 2007.
